Twitter exploded with outrage on Thursday night following ‘The Good Fight’s finale in which one of the characters accused Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis of sexual assault.
The plot of the Paramount+ courtroom drama’s series finale featured flamboyantly homosexual “Felix Staples” accusing DeSantis of forcing him to have oral sex following a CPAC appearance when Staples worked as an intern. He even goes so far as to claim to have DNA proof of the alleged encounter.
Main character “Diane Lockhart” is quick to dismiss the claim as a politically motivated attack, and later in the show it is revealed that Staples lied about the alleged assault in order to boost former President Donald Trump’s chances in 2024.
Lets the smears begin. Final episode of @TheGoodFight on @ParamountPlus has client claiming @GovRonDeSantis sexually assaulted him. “He invited me onto his staff. Little did I know what he meant by staff….and forced me into oral sex.” Have DeSantis DNA “stain.” #thegoodfight pic.twitter.com/961T7MP0nu

“I offered my political services to Governor DeSantis,” Staples says. “He saw me in my bicycle shorts, worn purely for medical reasons, and he invited me onto his staff. Little did I know what he meant by ‘staff.'”
“Oh my God,” Lockhart groaned.
“That’s who I prayed to for guidance on this decision. As well as my close friend and mentor Roger Stone who informed me that a demonic portal had opened up over the Florida state Capitol,” Staples continues. “I didn’t believe him and I took the job.”
“Ron invited me to CPAC so I could work on his speech. And then and there, he drugged me and forced me into oral sex.”
Lockhart asks for witnesses. Staples says he has “better” and dramatically produced a “Florida is for lovers” tee-shirt adorned with a “stain” that some may remember from a certain dress worn during the Bill Clinton administration.
The character arrogantly admits that he lied after being pressed for details that he should have been able to provide had his story been true.
Follow up on @TheGoodFight’s sexual assault charge against @GovRonDeSantis. Plot reveals accuser is liar. “DeSantis is going to win unless you use this….You want this because you hate DeSantis, I want this because it puts Trump ahead in the polling. Win-win.” #thegoodfight pic.twitter.com/ByWqYErUwW

“Ron DeSantis is going to win until you use this,” Staples warned.
“A lie?” he is asked.
“Yes, a lie. What does it matter? You want this cuz you hate DeSantis, I want this because it puts Trump ahead in the polling. Win-win,” he says smugly.
Horrifyingly graphic content aside, some Twitter users believe this was the opening shot at Republicans headed into the next presidential election. Others wonder whether what the show did was at all legal:
Isn’t this grounds for a lawsuit?

Writing a real person into a TV script accusing them of a heinous act then absolving them at the end allows the producers to slander without getting sued into bankruptcy.
